Printmaking

These are examples of some prints, a few straight up ones and a few experiments, for the two day print making project. This was my frist time using lino printing, and i really really enjoyed it. I like the quality of the prints, the ways of using them, blahblahblah.
I didnt put it down as one of my options for next term though. But im sure it wont mean I'll never be able to do it again. If I could afford it, I'd invest in some inks and so on.

The theme of the day was postives and negatives, as both the techniques, and as a concept. Positive and negative techniques refer to how much of the image is cut away- if you cut away just the outline, its negative, and if you cut out all but the outline, its a positive image.
As the concept, I used a narrative for mine. I chose a child hood poem - I dont remember who its by. But it went "there was a little girl, who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forhead. and when she was good, she was very very good, and when she was bad, she was horrid."

Fine Art Crit.

Its all about body image. This is an ongoing project, so if youre interested in helping me, then I would be most grateful. (: I ask people to show me something weird about their body, or something they don't like, then get them to do a blind drawing of it. All the photos are anonymous.
I'm considering other aspects, and ways of extending this project but haven't had any finalised any ideas yet.
heres some examples.

Life Drawing. Rugged Edward.

I really liked drawing this man. He was bony, and had fly away hair and I think (hope) that the drawings I produced caputred his essence. We played around with adding collage, mostly maps, into the drawings, but if I'm honest, I find that the ones with out it worked a lot better. This is the first life drawing project that I've done so far that I've felt was successful for me - we were using contour lines and single line drawing, playing with using our left hand and so on. I find that my drawings work better when they aren't as literal and laboured. Perhaps thats because, to be frank, I can't draw fantastically well.
Here we are (:

LEOPARD!

A one day drawing project. yay, leopard.
Baby leopard. Trying to come up with a logo, or at least that was the idea behind it.

Sculpture

Sad story goes with this.
It was originally displayed in the foyer of the art block, but then we had to move it. In the process of moving it, it's entire base fell off, leaving me with half a sculpture. Which I hadnt yet photographed. And is beyond repair. So, here it is broken. But you get the gist.
We were looking at Manfred Pernice. If I'm honest, I saw that work twice. Once, completely naive, and again with my sculpture tutor explaining the pieces and the themes behind his work.. and I still dont get it.
I suppose art is down to personal taste, and I'm sure there were people who went to the exhibition and loved it. I was not one of those people. I like art to be accessable, and I hate this pretention that comes with it. I want  to be able to visit an exhibition with a non art student and still enjoy it. I went the first time with my dad, who is an intelligent man, perhaps not booksmart, but he is tapped in. The pair of us walked around there, completely lost.
So producing a work in response to this artist was a bit more difficult. I came up with a sort of shanty town sky scraper construct. The photocopies on there are references to Pernices work, as is the unfinished quality of the work. I found that, as I didn't understand the themes properly, I was more emmulating the work, and thats never a good thing. So this wasnt as successful a piece as some of my others, but Im sure the next sculpture project will be better (: we are going to be working with clay and ideas of body image- and as a young person in todays society, that is something we can heavily relate to.
Anyway heres the pictures.

Applied photography - Alter Egos

Part of a 2 day project, first ever time using photoshop, eee.

I really enjoyed this project. carrying it on from now to the third term, but im not sure yet if i will specialise in this at the end.
The idea behind it is to create an alter ego. So, meet Daisy, the possably schizophrenic bag lady. She lives in a council flat, and hoards.
perhaps not the most inspired character, but i felt the photo editing part went very well.

Tumblrs dead, wordpress is an idiot, heres a new art blog.

Problems with tumblr (mostly 4chan related as i understand it.) and wordpress insisting you cant use any punctuation when writing out an email adress (...) mean I have moved my art blog here. Past projects will be put up, and I will try hard to make an entry every day.

A bit about me, I'm currently studying art and design at Abingdon and Witney College, and have a place to study Psychology at Southampton uni next year, exciting stuff (: I'm interested in what makes people tick, peoples cognition in relation to circumstance, how art work reflects cognition, and conceptual art. Also, I've made stuffed toys and other cutesy projects in the past. And I love cooking. Sometimes, I worry that deep down in my subconcious my ideal is to be some kind of housewife, knitting and baking and wearing dresses. Perhaps thats just me.

In my spare time, I am a barmaid at a local pub, I nap, I try to visit my boy who lives silly miles away, studying electrical things that I don't fully understand. I watch rubbish television, and I'm pretty ok with that. Happiness is an angry Jeremy Kyle.
